The topic of long distance relationships get a lot of tongues wagging with one end of the spectrum holding on to the ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder’ sentiment whilst some say it is something that is only perfect when depicted in films starring Rachel McAdams. But for Craig Redman and Karl Maier, being in separate continents has manifested in creative works that combine fashion and art. Under the line Craig and Karl, this designer duo are known for utilizing humour and bold colours in their designs which translates into super fun pieces that will definitely put a smile on your face while sparking conversations with everyone on the street.
For spring, Craig and Karl reinvents the summer staple – sunglasses, by teaming up with Le Specs and turns the sunnies into statement pieces by using patterns and quirky colour combinations across silhouettes that range from offbeat, swirly frames to classics like the round and Wayfarer styles. Accompanying these sunnies are equally one-of-kind lookbook shots by Alex Sainsbury that are pieces of art themselves. Hey, if it looks good on a striped faced person, it will look even more stellar on you!
These babies won’t cost you your entire year’s living expenses either. At $89 a piece, there is plenty of time for you to save up and treat yourself to a pair once the early blooms of Spring arrives.
Fun and functional? Art and design? Cute colours and kitschy silhouettes? Good things do come in pairs. I personally have got my eye (pun intended) on the black wiggly frames and the lucite rounded pair. Which one will you be rocking?
Craig and Karl x Le Specs will be available this Spring at Net-A-Porter, Nordstrom, FiveStory New York, Creatures of Comfort, and Colette.
